In a move to achieve the goals of Blue Revolution project, the Union government has lined up Rs 25,000 crore investment in different sectors of fisheries in the next three to five years.
The government is looking at three types of support by way of infrastructure development in harbours; extending subsidies to joint venture (JV) projects to set up hatcheries/nurseries/quarantine facilities as well as viability gap funding to establish processing plants, cold chain facilities at harvest or landing sites.
The government aims to outspread inland fisheries contribution potential by covering reservoirs, wetlands, rivers and streams in different parts of the country. The government intends to raise the inland fisheries’ production from three million tonne to six million tonne in the next three to four years.
The government is planning to promote cold water fisheries in the entire Himalayan region to rear shigh value fishes.
